Port Elizabeth

It has been a difficult month for all involved with CHOC Port Elizabeth as we had to say goodbye to two of our beautiful boys - little Sibulele and Lekhaya. We are truly grateful for the time we had with them and will never forget all the wonderful memories made! To all the people that was involved in giving and helping these two families during this difficult time - THANK YOU for opening your hearts and for not being afraid to care and love. A big thank you also to everyone responding on The Herald article!
We also continue to fight the difficult battle with little Chanly (4 years old). She shows severe side effects assumed to have been caused by one of the drugs part of treatment. It’s a very rare responds to the drug and defers from person to person. Chan -we are cheering for you girl! We know you are a winner! Then there is Suné that ended back in hospital with a fracture to her left tibia and fibula. This little rascal was so happy to have the cast removed after months of walking around on crutches that she enjoyed the freedom of hopping and jumping a little too much. Small Nomantansanqa (2) has been struggling for more than a month to get better. She has been through so much already in her short life. It’s her 3rd week in Dora and she witness both the passing away of little Sibulele and Lekhaya. We pray that she does not loose hope and continue to fight! Siziphiwe (11 years) has gone to Cape Town for a bone marrow transplant. Her little brother Iviwe (3) is the donor. We think of this whole family and pray that everything will go well. During the month two newly diagnosed patients were send to Cape Town -Red Cross Hospital from Port Elizabeth. One is little 8 month old girl called Onesimo and 5 year old girl Aphilele. We can’t wait to have them back in PE again. It’s been 7 very long months in Cape Town for little Lehyema and his mom, but finally they are back in Middelburg. Lehyema we are so proud of you boy, you’ve done very well!

Many of the children at the Dora Nginza Hospital celebrated their birthdays during the month of July. Lekhaya turned 5 on the 11th of July. The ladies from Standardbank held a huge birthday party for the kids. Each child had their own candle to blow out and lots of sweets and cake. The ladies also donated a much needed Microwave for when the mom’s stay over with their children in hospital.

Thank you so much!

All the girls between 4 and 12 where spoiled to “A queen for a Day” event organized by Reach for a Dream. They had so much fun and got to meet Miss PE. They even tried their own bit of modeling.

Food Parcels

A lady that has lately been such an angel to CHOC, was so kind to make up these wonderful food parcels. The parcels were given out at the Monday Cancer Clinic at Dora Nginza hospital. Many of the families struggle to make a daily living and especially the single moms that are not able to work as they need to look after their sick children. The food parcels make a huge difference!!

Thank you Adele and friends!

Xmas Party for Kids
Each year CHOC organizes a big Xmas Celebration for the cancer kids. We also invite two of their siblings as they sometimes get left out - but not this time!! We want to make it really special this year! We are looking for a venue and companies or individuals that are willing to adopt this event in order to make it bigger and more exciting than ever before. Throughout the year these children have to face so much - this is the one opportunity where they can just be KIDS and enjoy life as a normal little people. If you or you company would like to get involved with this year’s Xmas Celebration for Cancer Kids - please contact
